Welcome to Garaito92 blog. A place to gather information about Yu-Gi-Oh! and its contents~

A bit late to make this, but it is better than never : OCG Banlist October 2020 Reaction

 Source : Ready for Duel

Without further ado, here is my opinions :

BANNED

Dragoon of Red-Eyes

Yu-Gi-Oh!

A big spellcaster with negation, cannot be targeted and destroyed by opponent's effect, and burn effect. Glad Konami didn't give him cannot be attacked or unaffected by card effect. Otherwise, he will be the strongest card ever in Yu-Gi-Oh! history. No wonder why duelists wants this card being hit in the 1st release.

Abused in many decks, Dragoon is always being an end-combo since Verte Anaconda's effect restrict its user to Special Summon a monster after the effect is being used. Not only the combo deck, Dragun is also used in a deck that not require many summons such as Subterror.

With the release of Forbidden Droplets and reprint of Dark Ruler No More in Structure Deck : Master of the Spiritual Arts, it should be enough to stop Dragoon's rampage and keep him safe from the list, at least being Limited.

Number S0 : Utopic Zexal

Yu-Gi-Oh!

After Numeron's release in Collection Pack : 2020, many controls deck such as Eldlich, Subterror, or Trickstars can abuse them to summon this powerful XYZ Monster. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! duel environment, where no cards above 2000 or 3000 ATK can be summoned easily in the 1st move, no wonder this card is considered as a threat. Combined with Edlich making this card enough to be said unstoppable.

Same as Dragun, Utopic Zexal can be stopped by cards like Forbidden Droplets. Even more : Psyframe Gear Gamma, Forbidden Chalice, Infinite Impermenance, and Ghost Ogre. The latter only stops your play for 1 turn. But again, you will not bring these just to counter 1 card, yes?

LIMITED

Girsu, the Orcust Mekk Knight

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Personally, i hate Orcust deck : easy combo, graveyard effect, have barrier-like card and banished zone abusal. Sometimes, i'm thinking only bad hand can stop this deck. Once its superstars, Harp Horror, sent to the Graveyard and its effect resolves, it is the end of the game.

With the release of Girsu, they have many option to dump Harp Horror. Sometimes i think the combo will be stopped when i Ash'd Harp Horror, but this is where that thought is wrong. Girsu's effect can summons a token when he is alone, and surprise, they have enough material to summon Galatea. Even worse, the remaining 4 cards can have Monster Reborn or Foolish Burial among them, letting the combo extended.

However, i think hitting Girsu is not stopping Orcust for being the top contender in the next meta. Hitting Harp Horror is.

One for One

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Can't say much for this one , maybe there are much deck that abuse Lvl 1 in the future that Konami will release. But i feel bad for it, getting hit again after being Semi-Limited 1 year ago.

SEMI-LIMITED

Nadir Servant

Yu-Gi-Oh!

When Dogmatika released and their deck is everywhere, i wonder what will be hit. Ecclesia the Virtuous is one of them, but i'm doubt she will. Too many Stratos-like effect such as Stratos itself and Satellarknight Deneb is stay Unlimited. Plus, her effect will restrict the user to summon anything from the Extra Deck. Dogmatika Maximus is having less chance of being hit. Its Special Summoning condition is too hard, it relies something that can send any Extra Deck Monster to the Graveyard. Its effect also giving chance of opponent to summon Invoked Mechaba via Cyber Dragon Nova. But i forget, they have Nadir Servant. A card that can unleash any combo started from Dogmatika's effect.

I doubt making the latter being Semi-Limited giving Shaddoll or Invoked a big impact. It is like just giving them a free slot for hand-trap or something else that can be abused by both deck.

Called by the Grave

Yu-Gi-Oh!

I didn't think this one should be hit, considering there are so many hand traps, especially Maxx C in OCG. Perhaps Konami wants every duelists to use Crossout Designator instead of Called, and letting other control deck to rise against combo deck.

As if it would, since Eldlich is still rocking.

Memories of Hope

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Not much comment about this. Even some decks that abuse Numeron as their 2nd engine wouldn't run this card even one. Same as One for One, maybe Konami will release another Numeron?

UNLIMITED

If i may adapt the quote from Loukas Peterson of InfiniteTCGPlayer : " Sometimes Old Card Don't Matter Anymore " , it is what i think about the release of Makyura, Necroface, Red-Eyes Fusion and White Dragon Wyvernbuster. Of course Personal Spoofing is an exception, since its release can be considered new, 2017. Aside that, those cards seems not relevant to be the strongest in next format, but i doubt with the release of Personal Spoofing can make Altergeist relevant again. Necroface can be a good support for Thunder Dragon, Metaphys, or Gren Maju deck. With the errata of Exchange of the Spirit and itself, Makyura the Destructor seems out of league for the next format. Or waiting for a good card to be abused.

A good news for Red Eyes duelists, Red Eyes Fusion is back to 3 after being hit because of Dragun.

CONCLUSION

Yu-Gi-Oh!

With this banlist, Invoked/Shaddoll Dogmatika, Edllich, and Zoodiac will still becomes the top tier of OCG Metagame. Not much change with the Metagame as shown above. Especially Eldlich that lost their companion, Numeron. The deck itself is strong without them. Some deck that can summon Verte Anaconda-Dragoon have to change : either using Neos Fusion as last resort for One Turn Kill, or find a new card(s) to abuse with. Maybe they can use Vtuber Evil Twin engine that can easily Special Summon monsters? Or change to Draitron for some new fresh Ritual Summoning method.

Or else, they can back to Sky Striker again...

Either way, i'm looking forward for October metagame. Either this banlist will change the meta : giving chance the old deck to raise, or letting the new archetype to dominate, and force the player to buy the new product.
